Mid Century Pair of 40/4 Stacking Chairs by David Rowland for Seid International
A pair of oak 40/4 stacking chairs by David Rowland for Seid International no. 406969, likely from the late 1960s or early 1970s. Chair with oak veneer over bentwood seat and back on chrome finish steel rod frame. There is some wear to the seats, conducive to age and use - please see the pictures.
These chairs have a minimalist, yet elegant aesthetic, exhaustively researched for comfort and exactingly produced. A strong space-saving ergonomic design that remains unsurpassed to this day. Its 40/4 name refers to the design for stacking 40 chairs at 4 feet high (122cm).
Countless accolades have been rightly bestowed upon the 40/4 chair since its premier in 1964.
