Rare G-Plan Triple Wardrobe in Afromosia (African Teak) – UK, Late 1950s
This is an exceptionally rare iteration of E. Gomme’s late 1950s design, executed in solid and veneered Afromosia (African Teak) rather than the standard Tola. The wood presents a deep, golden-honey hue with a straight, disciplined grain structure that glows under light. It features the iconic cast brass drop-ring handles set in square plates—a hallmark of G-Plan’s "glamour" period—which offer a stunning metallic contrast to the warm timber. Finding this specific architectural silhouette in Afromosia is unusual. It represents a transitional moment in British design, moving away from the high-gloss finishes of the 50s towards the matte, organic textures that would define the "Danish Modern" movement. Because it lacks the ebonised legs of the 'Librenza' range, it has a timeless, cohesive look that pairs perfectly with G-Plan Fresco or Danish teak pieces.
The Interior Stylist's Note: "The Afromosia grain makes this a chameleon. It works beautifully in a mid-century bedroom alongside a Teak sideboard, but the brass hardware is dressy enough for a grand hallway. Use it to warm up a cool, grey-toned room."
Condition & Restoration: Excellent vintage condition. The Afromosia has matured to a rich colour. Original brass hardware polished.
